Since heritage buildings typically have complex (non-parametric) geometries, digitizing them using traditional approaches is inefficient and time-consuming. In the last few years, remote sensing applications have played a key role in the survey and preservation of historical assets: In the field, 3D scanning technology and photogrammetry surveys save time while proving to be extremely accurate at registering non-regular building shapes. The efficient transformation of remote sensing data into it as parametric smart models, on the other hand, continues to be a problem. Historic Building Information Modeling that really is efficient and well-organized (HBIM) methodology is required to produce a consistent model that can provide benefits while also integrating conservation and restoration efforts. This article discusses the use of 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry to create an HBIM model of heritage objects.
