Project Overview
The Production Plant project involved the digital transformation and accurate as-built mapping of an active industrial manufacturing facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). To facilitate future plant expansions, facility management, and operational upgrades, the project required converting raw reality-capture data into an intelligent digital asset.
OneClick BIM developed highly accurate Level of Development (LOD) 300 BIM models directly from provided point cloud data, capturing the intricate networks of industrial piping, heavy machinery, and complex structural frameworks.
OneClick BIM's Scope
OneClick BIM was responsible for the Scan-to-BIM conversion, processing high-density point cloud data into a parametric, coordinated digital model. The project scope included:
LOD 300 Scan-to-BIM Modelling: High-fidelity 300-level geometric modelling of existing assets.
Multi-Disciplinary Modelling: Accurate conversion of Structural elements, industrial Piping networks, and Mechanical.
Point Cloud Verification: Continuous cross-referencing of model geometry against laser scan data to ensure precise spatial tolerance.
Clash & Interference Check: Identification of spatial bottlenecks within the existing plant layout.
Key Challenge
Modelling brownfield industrial facilities presents extreme spatial complexity. The plant featured tightly packed, intersecting piping runs, specialized heavy machinery with complex geometries, and dense structural steel bracing. Ensuring millimetre-level accuracy during the point cloud conversion was critical to prevent errors in future retrofits, manage tight tolerances around active machines, and provide facility managers with a trustworthy digital replica of the operational plant.
OneClick BIM's Workflow
Point Cloud Data Assessment: Raw laser scan data, registration reports, and plant documentation were thoroughly reviewed to set extraction parameters and tolerance benchmarks.
BIM Model Development (LOD 300): Parametric models were built directly over the point cloud data, distinctly categorising structural supports, equipment/machines, and precise pipe routing (including valves, flanges, and fittings).
Interference & Quality Review: The model underwent strict quality assurance checks to verify that the digital components perfectly aligned with the visual reality of the laser scans.
Final BIM Delivery: OneClick BIM delivered the fully coordinated LOD 300 BIM model. The intelligent file provided stakeholders with a precise, data-rich digital record of the physical plant to support immediate maintenance planning and future engineering modifications.
