Bailey Bridge Infrastructure

Italy

Project Overview

The project involved the digital transformation of 16–32 existing bridge spans for a government infrastructure authority. The primary objective was to develop accurate As-Built BIM models of the existing bridge structures and establish a structured digital information environment for long-term asset management.

OneClick BIM developed detailed digital representations of the bridge structures, including parametric components and relevant asset information. The BIM data was structured for integration with an Asset Information Management (AIM) environment and connected to a Digital Twin platform to support ongoing monitoring, analysis, and infrastructure management.

The resulting digital asset environment provides stakeholders with a reliable source of structured bridge information, supporting proactive maintenance, improved compliance, and early identification of potential risks and future issues.

OneClick BIM's Scope

OneClick BIM was responsible for developing the As-Built BIM models and preparing the bridge components and information required for integration with the client's asset management and Digital Twin environment.

The project scope included:

  • As-Built BIM Modelling of Existing Bridge Structures

  • Structural Component Modelling

  • Creation of Parametric Families for Bridge Components

  • Asset Information Integration

  • AIM Data Integration

  • Digital Twin Platform Integration

  • Model and Information Quality Assurance

  • Structured Digital Asset Documentation

The coordinated BIM environment established a digital foundation for the ongoing management and monitoring of the bridge assets.

Key Challenge

The project required the accurate digitisation of existing bridge structures while maintaining consistency across a large number of bridge spans and asset components.

A key challenge was not only to represent the physical condition and configuration of the bridges but also to structure the associated asset information in a way that could be integrated into an AIM and Digital Twin environment.

The digital models needed to provide reliable and consistent information that could support future maintenance activities, compliance requirements, operational decision-making, and identification of potential risks based on historical and asset data.

OneClick BIM's Workflow

Existing Bridge Information Review

Available bridge documentation, survey information, asset records, and existing project data were reviewed to establish modelling and information requirements.

As-Built BIM Model Development

Accurate As-Built BIM models were developed for the existing bridge structures, representing the physical configuration and major structural components of each bridge span.

Parametric Family Development

Parametric BIM families were created for the bridge components to ensure consistent modelling, standardised information, and flexibility for future asset management requirements.

Asset Information Integration

Relevant metadata and asset information were incorporated into the BIM models and structured to support Asset Information Management requirements.

Digital Twin Integration

The structured BIM and asset information was prepared for connection with the Digital Twin platform, enabling the bridge assets to become part of an ongoing digital monitoring and management environment.

Final BIM Delivery

OneClick BIM delivered structured As-Built BIM models for 16–32 bridge spans, supported by parametric bridge component families and integrated asset information.

The BIM deliverables were prepared to support connection with the client's AIM environment and Digital Twin platform, creating a reliable digital representation of the existing bridge assets for continued monitoring, management, and decision-making.
